There are many fun and enriching events happening in and around the Inn at Valley Farms to entertain and  engage you during your stay. From civic events like concerts and plays, to parades and art shows there is almost always something to do in Walpole and the surrounding areas.

Outdoor Farmers' Markets in this region run May through October and are held rain or shine. The following are all less than a 30-minute drive from the inn:

 

Walpole, NH : Every Friday afternoon 4-6pm. On the town common, Walpole, NH.

Winter Farmers' Markets:Most area farmers' markets operate year round although held less frequently from November - May.

Walpole: 3rd Saturday of the month (November - May) at the Walpole Town Hall 11-2pm.

 

Keene, NH: 1st and 3rd Saturday (November - May) at 25 Roxbury Street, Keene from 10-2pm.

 

Bellows Falls, VT:3rd Friday 4-7pm (November - May) at the Bellows Falls Train Depot.

March 24 & 25: New Hampshire Maple Weekend. Over 60 sugar houses across the state will participate in this open house weekend. Visit as many sugar houses as you like to learn how maple syrup is made and the modern methods used to carry on this ancient tradition. Enjoy free samples, horse-drawn rides, sugar on snow, pancake breakfasts and more! Fun for the whole family. March 24th: Stonewall Farm's 12th Annual Sap Gathering Contest. Learn more about the story of maple sugaring in New England. Each year, Stonewall Farm invites about twenty teams of draft horses and their owners to race along a course set up in the woodlands behind the Learning Center. They gather sap from old-fashioned buckets, which are then dumped into a large holding tank at the end of the run. Teams are judged for technique, time and quantity, and both spectators and participants have a blast. The sap will be boiling there will be food for sale, obstacle courses, maple syrup sundaes, hayrides, and lots more. Location: 242 Chesterfield Road. June 7th-9th: Get ready for the 11th Annual Strolling of the Heifers weekend. Three days filled with great events to entertain and educate the whole family highlighted of course by the world famous strolling of the heifers parade, Saturday, June 8th at 10 am on Brattleboro, VT's historic Main Street followed by the Dairy Festival and Green Expo.

June 22nd and 23rd: 48th Annual Gilsum Rock Swap and Mineral Show. More than 60 dealers and swappers with gems, jewelry and minerals available for sale or trade. Pan for minerals, scale the rock climbing wall, enjoy an old fashioned New England ham and bean dinner with home made pies, sit down for a Chicken Barbeque lunch and more! Rain or shine.

July 4th: Don't miss Saxtons River, Vt's annual patriotic celebration complete with an old-fashioned parade, pie contest, live music, street water polo, bar-b-q, fireworks and more. Main Street, Saxtons River, VT. This is an annual favorite not to be missed!

July 31st - August 4th: Cheshire Fair . 75th anniversary of our local fair complete with all the trimmings - parade, midway, 4H demonstrations, horse shows, tractor pulls, farm animals, and more. Cheshire Fairgrounds, Swanzey, NH.

August 24th: Our 9th Annual Outdoor Movie Night! The fun begins at 7pm with classic cartoons then @ 7:30 a feature film! Popcorn, drinks and homemade cookies provided. Bring your own blanket or chair or sit on the hay bales provided and watch great cinema projected on the side of our century-old barn. Open to the public. Free will donations appreciated. Bring a pot luck dessert to share if you can. Don't miss this great family event!

September 20th and 21st?: 8th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration at Burdick Chocolates. Offering a mostly traditional German menu with some contemporary and seasonal dishes that will focus on originality with a few creative twists. Live music, special German cakes and pastries, as well as a selection of fine German beer and wine will be the primary feature again this year. Additionally, we will be hosting a soccer game on Saturday at 11:00am – USA vs. DEUTSCHLAND - it should be great fun!

 

September 28th: Clarence Demar Marathon . The marathon has been run since 1978 in the honor of Clarence Demar. Demar was a seven-time winner of the Boston Marathon who lived and worked in the Monadnock Region during the 1930s. The race begins in Gilsum, ends in Keene and brings runners from all over. Official qualifier for the US Olympic trials and the Boston Marathon.

October 4th and 5th: Cheshire Craftsmen's Association Annual Crafts Fair. 9am - 3pm Juried local craftspeople with food concession on site. Free admission and free parking. A great start to holiday shopping! Keene Recreation Center, 312 Washington Street, Keene, NH.
 

 

Events for November

November 28th-30th: 10th Annual Walpole Artisan's Tour . Friday 1-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. Come experience art in all its diversity during the 8th annual Walpole Artisan Tour. The starting point will be the Walpole Artisans Cooperative located at 52 Main Street in downtown Walpole. From here follow the map and signs to artisans' studios and galleries. Artisans will be available during the tour to discuss their work. Watch demonstrations in glass blowing, painting, woodworking, and more.

 

November 28th-30th: 34th Annual Putney Craft Tour: 10am-5pm daily. The Putney Craft Tour open house venue provides a unique opportunity to see the transformation of paper, clay, glass, wood, metal and fiber into beautiful handmade pieces of art. Tour just a few or all of the 25 working studios.
