When you envision a classic New England town, you could be picturing our little village of Walpole, New Hampshire. From its stately historic homes lined around its oversized town green to its white clapboard churches and public buildings, Walpole is a “Currier and Ives” classic long known for its beauty.

Besides scenic beauty, winter offers a whole host of activities that can only be enjoyed, well… in winter. Ice skating, sledding, tubing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, cross-country and downhill skiing, and snowmobile riding can all be experienced right here in the Monadnock Region during the winter months.

Enjoying winter is not hard. All you need is an extra layer or two to keep you warm and a good attitude. In my opinion, people that don’t like winter are the ones that don’t get outside and enjoy it for what it is! And the silver lining for braving the winter temperatures? Warming up with a cup of hot drinking chocolate from Walpole’s own world-renowned Burdick Chocolates!

Worried about possible weather conditions? The single most asked question I get about winter travel is in regards to roads and whether or not they get plowed. Yes, the roads do get plowed AND in a timely fashion. People do live here and need to go to work and school and this is New England after all so town road crews are well equipped to deal with the white stuff. As long as you have decent tires on your vehicle and are not in a rush you’ll be fine in all but the worst of weather. -Jackie
